The International Biathlon Union (IBU) was founded in London on 2 July 1993. This occurred when the National Biathlon Union in London/Heathrow decided to exclude biathlon from the World federation UIPMB (Union de Pentathlon Moderne et Biathlon), which it had been part of since 1953, [3] forcing biathlon to form their own international federation.
This is a list of international sports federations, each of which serves as a non-governmental governing body for a given sport and administers its sport at a world level, most often crafting rules, promoting the sport to prospective spectators and fans, developing prospective players, and organizing world or continental championships.
It was founded in 2016, and is a member of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation, the International Ski Mountaineering Federation, the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation, the International Biathlon Union, and the International Luge Federation. [1]
