Waltus L. Watkins established the 80-acre livestock farm he called Bethany Plantation in 1839. [8] Watkins Mill was built in 1859-1860. Watkins built housing for the mill workers nearby, creating one of the first planned communities in North America. Watkins Glen State Park is in the village of Watkins Glen, south of Seneca Lake in Schuyler County in New York's Finger Lakes region. The park's lower part is near the village, while the upper part is open woodland. It was opened to the public in 1863 and was privately run as a tourist resort until 1906, when it was purchased by New York State.
Watkins Lake is a 238 acres (96 ha) lake in Waterford Township in Oakland County, Michigan. [2] The private, 25 feet (7.6 m) deep all-sports lake is spring fed and is entirely residential. It is located north of Watkins Lake Rd and west of Dixie Highway.

The Gray–Watkins Mill is located on the southeast corner of River and Mill Streets in Montgomery. Built in 1853, its original purpose was as a water-powered turbine flour mill on the Fox River. It operated until 1916, when ice in the river destroyed the dam. Electricity allowed the mill a replacement power source until it shut down in 1922.
