V-belts need larger pulleys for their thicker cross-section than flat belts. For high-power requirements, two or more V-belts can be joined side-by-side in an arrangement called a multi-V, running on matching multi-groove sheaves. This is known as a multiple-V-belt drive (or sometimes a "classical V-belt drive").
The most common type of CVT uses a V-belt which runs between two variable-diameter pulleys. [2] The pulleys consist of two cone-shaped halves that move together and apart. The V-belt runs between these two halves, so the effective diameter of the pulley is dependent on the distance between the two halves of the pull

It is a stepless, fully-automatic transmission, consisting of a V-shaped drive-belt, and two pulleys, each of two cones, whose effective diameter can be changed so that the "V" belt runs nearer the spindle or nearer the rim, depending on the separation of the cones. These are synchronized so that the belt always remains at the same optimal tension.
It replaced the hemp and rope belt used on automobiles and industrial machinery at the time, and was a model for the common serpentine belt. The belt's success propelled the company to become the largest manufacturer of V-belts, a title it still holds. [2] [3] In 1919, the International Rubber Company changed its name to the Gates Rubber Company.
Serpentine belt (foreground) and dual vee belt (background) on a bus engine Belt tensioner providing pressure against the back of a serpentine belt in an automobile engine. A serpentine belt (or drive belt [1]) is a single, continuous belt used to drive multiple peripheral devices in an automotive engine, such as an alternator, power steering pump, water pump, air conditioning compressor, air ...
A beam coupling. A beam coupling, also known as helical coupling, is a flexible coupling for transmitting torque between two shafts while allowing for angular misalignment, parallel offset and even axial motion, of one shaft relative to the other.
The velocity v of the chain or belt is the same when in contact with the two sprockets or pulleys: = =, where the input sprocket or pulley A meshes with the chain or belt along the pitch radius r A and the output sprocket or pulley B meshes with this chain or belt along the pitch radius r B,
