Lillian Frances Smith (August 4, 1871 [nb 1] – February 3, 1930) [4] was an American trick shooter and trick rider who joined Buffalo Bill's Wild West in 1886, at the age of fourteen. [5] She was billed as "the champion California huntress," [ 6 ] and was a direct rival to Annie Oakley in the show.
She rode from San Francisco to New York from September 1, 1910, arriving on July 8, 1911 [3] on a bet from Buffalo Bill, whose Wild West show she performed in with her husband. [4] [5] She rode her Thoroughbred mare, Lady Ellen, on the journey. [1] She was born in New York under the name Nan Jeanne Aspinwall. [1]
Hopkins claimed to have been a cowboy and professional horseman in the American West, where he gained a reputation for distance riding.In his autobiographical memoir (unpublished in his lifetime) and accounts to friends, he claimed to have been featured as one of the "Rough Riders of the World" in Buffalo Bill's Wild West show, which toured in Europe [4] as well as the United States.

Buffalo Rider is a 1976 American Western film co-directed by John Fabian, George Lauris and Dick Robinson. The film's character of Buffalo Jones bears no relation to Charles "Buffalo" Jones who the producers did not know existed until years after.

A famous long-distance racer, cowboy, and dispatch rider for the United States government, Hopkins is plagued by guilt for having carried a message to the 7th Cavalry Regiment authorizing the Wounded Knee Massacre of Lakota Sioux.
