Fayoum University (FU) (Arabic: جامعة الفيوم, Jame'at al-fayoum) is a public university located in the Egyptian city of Faiyum in northern Egypt. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] From 1976 to 2005, Fayoum University was a public institution within the University of Cairo . [ 3 ]
Archaeological evidence has found occupations around the Faiyum dating back to at least the Epipalaeolithic.Middle Holocene occupations of the area are most widely studied on the north shore of Lake Moeris, where Gertrude Caton Thompson and Elinor Wight Gardner did a number of excavations of Epipalaeolithic and Neolithic sites, as well as a general survey of the area. History [ edit ] The first HERC was established in Northern California in 2000 with Stanford , UC Berkeley , and the University of California at Santa Cruz as lead members, with the goal of allowing colleges and universities to collaborate on the recruitment of faculty, staff, and executives.
While faculty are eminently welcome to participate, it should be pointed out that academics generally have their own preferred outlets for their work, and that Wikipedia is largely a cooperative undertaking by laypeople: we are focused mainly on recruiting students and alumni of these institutions.

The restored Abgig obelisk, as it currently stands near the entrance of modern-day Faiyum. The Abgig obelisk (also known as the Begig obelisk and the Faiyum obelisk) is an ancient stone monument erected by the Egyptian pharaoh Senusret I in the 20th century BC near what is now Faiyum.
The cemetery was discovered by a team of archeologists from Brigham Young University in 1980. They were given sole responsibility for the excavation in 1981. The excavations are done under time-pressure due to threat of incursion by local farmers who wish to expand their fields across the cemetery. [1]
