The St. Patrick's Parish complex contains a church with associated cemetery and rectory. [2] The church is a red brick Gothic revival structure on a rough-hewn stone foundation. The façade of the church is symmetric, with a square central tower surmounted by an octagonal spire. The entrance is through a gabled projection at the base of the tower.
On September 18, 1899, Bishop Foley appointed Rev. Bernard Zmijewski as the new pastor. As the church was still in its planning phase, Fr. Zmijewski held temporary services at St. Patrick's Church. The founding parishioners wanted to name the parish after Our Lady of Mount Carmel because it was on that day the building committee was established.

He was additionally charged in June 2021 with sexually assault two young teenagers at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wyandotte during the same time period.
