Norsk Museum is located 9 miles northeast of Ottawa, Illinois on highway 71. The museum is located in a former Norwegian Lutheran Church which served as a house of worship from 1848 until 1918. Norsk Museum is dedicated to the Scandinavian settlers who founded the area around Norway, Illinois in the 1800s. [9]
The church added a basement in the 1950s, and added the new church in 1997 (keeping the old church in its location). As of October 27, 2021, they will celebrate their 183rd Anniversary, being the 6th oldest church in Illinois, 49th oldest in the United States and the 224th oldest in the world. [citation needed]

The Ottawa Commercial Historic District is a historic district in downtown Ottawa, Illinois. The district includes 195 buildings and structures, most of them commercial buildings, spread out over 26 city blocks. The oldest buildings in the district, located near the Illinois and Fox rivers, were built in the 1830s.
State law specifies that no two townships in Illinois shall have the same name, [3] and that, if the Illinois Secretary of State compares the township abstracts and finds a duplicate, the county that last adopted the name shall instead adopt a different name at the next county board meeting. [4]
