Holmes played basketball for Gorham High School in Gorham, Maine. She won state titles in each of her first two years. [1] As a senior, Holmes averaged 30.1 points, 16.7 rebounds and 3.9 blocks per game, and was named Maine Gatorade Player of the Year. She was a three-time Southwestern Maine Activities Association Player of the Year. [2]
Holmes is the son of two Doctors of Divinity who run a Chicago-area church. [5] In high school, Holmes grew from a 6' 2" guard into a 6' 9" forward, but did not receive any Division I college basketball scholarship offers until he had already committed to playing for Moraine Valley Community College, located in Illinois.

Holmes grew up in Goodyear, Arizona and initially attended Millennium High School. [1] He was named the Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year after averaging 23.7 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.8 blocks, and 3.1 assists per game as a junior. [2] Holmes transferred to Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida prior to the start of his senior year. [3]
Jennings played for Holmes High School of Kentucky and graduated in 1988. He averaged 34.4 points in his senior season and scored 41 points in a state tournament game. Jennings was inducted to the Greater Cincinnati Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019. [3] He went on to play collegiate basketball with Western Kentucky from 1990 to 1992. [4]
