State Route 89A Spur (SR 89A Spur or SS 89A) is a 7.22-mile-long (11.62 km) [22] unsigned highway routed along Fain Road in Prescott Valley. [23] SR 89A Spur was originally established on July 16, 2004, over a small section of Fain Road immediately east of the intersection with SR 89A proper. [ 24 ]
This highway ran from Nephi to the Arizona state line near Kanab. This route is still drivable as the modern US 89A, US 89, and Utah SR-132 . With the establishment of the United States highway system in 1926, most of SR-11 was used for the routing of US 89 through southern Utah; the internal designation used by state agencies remained SR-11. [ 5 ]
The designation was formally approved by the Arizona State Highway Department on September 9, 1927, with the establishment of the numbered state highway system. [5] Prior to the formal establishment of the U.S. Highway System, the original US 89 proposal had the highway end at proposed US 60 (which was ultimately designated as US 66) in Flagstaff.
It is a largely south–north route; the largest city through which it now passes is Prescott, where it meets SR 69 and the extremely scenic SR 89A. The segment between Prescott and Congress (intersection with SR 71) is quite scenic. The northern terminus of the highway is located at an interchange with Interstate 40 (I-40) in Ash Fork.

The bridge was paid for by the nascent Arizona State Highway Commission (now the Arizona Department of Transportation) in cooperation with the United States Department of the Interior's Bureau of Indian Affairs, as the eastern landing is on the Navajo Nation. The steel spandrel bridge was designed and constructed by the Kansas City Structural ...
In 1941, an alternate route of US 89 known as US 89A had been established over former State Route 79 (SR 79) between Prescott and Flagstaff, via Jerome and Sedona. [ 12 ] Following the end of the Second World War , traffic had greatly increased on the U.S. Highway System throughout the country, resulting in an increase of traffic accidents and ...
