In 1695, the castle is bought by Guillaume de Bilquin, [1] a wealthy forge owner, who completes and enhances it. In 1717, his daughter, Marie-Agnès Bilquin, marries Jean-Louis Cartier, son of the general treasurer of the prince-bishop of Liège. In 1968, his father was made a hereditary baron.
George-Étienne Cartier was born on September 6, 1814, in Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu, Lower Canada (now Quebec). Cartier attended the Petit Séminaire de Montréal from 1824 to 1832. He was called to the bar in 1834 where he began to practise his profession.
