Since 1984, it has been the venue for the tour's annual Travelers Championship, previously known as the Buick Championship and Greater Hartford Open.
The inaugural tournament was won by Thomas L. Cheney, a Yale University student and Yale Golf Team member. [1] A decade later, the tournament was won in consecutive years by another member of Yale's golf team, Buck Merriman. [2] [3] In 1910, Merriman was the medalist at the event.
