Craigavon Bridge is one of three bridges to be built in the area. The first bridge over the River Foyle was a wooden one, assembled in the United States and transported to Derry. It was built from 1789–1791, and sited between Bridge Street and Fountain Hill, about 90 metres north of the present bridge. [3]
The last mayor of Derry City Council was Brenda Stevenson of the SDLP, while Gary Middleton of the DUP was the last deputy mayor of Derry City Council. The post has a long history. A provost was appointed in the initial city charter of 1604. In 1613, this post was replaced with that of mayor, with John Rowley being the first to serve. [10]

Derry City and Strabane District Council replaced Derry City Council and Strabane District Council.The first election for the new district was originally due to take place in May 2009, but in April 2008, Northern Ireland Secretary Shaun Woodward announced that the scheduled 2009 district council elections were to be postponed until 2011. [14]
It was created as part of the 2014 Northern Ireland local government reform, replacing Derry City Council and Strabane District Council. The first elections to the authority were on 22 May 2014 and it acted as a shadow authority to its two predecessors until the new district formally came into being on 1 April 2015.

The Peace Bridge is a cycle and foot bridge across the River Foyle in Derry, Northern Ireland. It opened on 25 June 2011, connecting Ebrington Square with the rest of the city centre. It is the second most recent of four bridges in the city, the others being the Craigavon Bridge and the Foyle Bridge and more recently the Pennyburn Bridge .
