Charles Parker Jr. (August 29, 1920 – March 12, 1955), nicknamed "Bird" or "Yardbird", was an American jazz saxophonist, bandleader, and composer. [1] [2] Parker was a highly influential soloist and leading figure in the development of bebop, [3] a form of jazz characterized by fast tempos, virtuosic technique, and advanced harmonies.
In 1981, Chan helped write and edit a book of photographs of Charlie Parker titled To Bird with Love [7] [8] and later wrote the autobiographical memoir My Life in E-Flat. [9] The second book was published in 1999, the year of her death from cancer, aged 74, in Étampes, France. [10]
The Charlie Parker 10th Memorial Concert was recorded March 27, 1965, 10 years after the death of Charlie Parker, at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Its A&R director was Bobby Scott and it was released on Limelight Records the same year. It has yet to be reissued on CD. [1] It also marks Dave Lambert's final recordings.
