The Diocese of Novaliches (Latin: Dioecesis Novalichesina; Filipino: Diyosesis ng Novaliches) is a diocese of the Latin Church of the Catholic Church in the Philippines.The diocese was created by Pope John Paul II on December 7, 2002, by virtue of his Apostolic Constitution Animarum Utilitati, [2] and was canonically erected on January 16, 2003, from the Archdiocese of Manila.
Following the creation of the Diocese of Novaliches on December 7, 2002, by Pope John Paul II, Bacani was appointed as its first bishop. [5] He was appointed as bishop of the diocese on January 16, 2003, on his 63rd birthday. [3] In April 2003, Bacani was accused of sexually harassing his 33-year old personal secretary.
This gave birth to the Diocese of Novaliches, which was inaugurated on January 16, 2003; Teodoro Bacani Jr. was appointed first bishop. Rañada became the first rector of the cathedral. The Good Shepherd Archdiocesan Shrine was renamed the Cathedral Shrine and Parish of the Good Shepherd, or shortly, the Cathedral of Novaliches.

Most Rev. Roberto O. Gaa, DD has declared Our Lady of Mercy as the second patroness of the diocese, and officially took the name "Ina ng Novaliches" (Mother of Novaliches). Tracing back the history, this church was the only parish in Novaliches, and from it sprung the different churches around the Novaliches district, including North Caloocan.
