The Commonwealth Government declared the Wiluna gold mine a protected industry due to the arsenic production used to enhance military shell fragmentation, and a Commonwealth Government subsidy was received in 1944–45. The mine lasted for some more years until 1947, when all machinery was sold off and Wiluna went into a form of hibernation. [14]
