Current Carmax sales consultant here. You can’t “not mention it”. When our buyers appraise the vehicle, the first thing they do is scan the VIN to see if it’s already been appraised by us or an affiliate company. If you already have an Edmunds offer, that is also our offer.
How legit are CarMax instant offers via Edmunds? US Sale. I'm potentially in the market to trade in my car, so the other night I went on Edmunds to value my car and CarMax made an offer of 15k for my vehicle, contingent on an in person inspection. I was honest in my assessment of my car's condition, including that it's currently experiencing ...
Carvana and Driveway say it's worth $300-350. Carmax offers $2300. No idea what all that means. Don’t forget taxes, if you are buying another car, you don’t have to pay taxes on the trade amount. for instance you buy at Carmax 25k car, they give you $25k for your car, you pay zero sales tax.
The dealers trade in offer can be less than carmax’s as long as you still win on the taxes. If you don’t live in such a state, just sell to carmax and don’t bother with the dealer. PS: I opted to keep my old plates when I did the trade in, even though the dealer insisted that I shouldn’t, because I thought that was cheaper.
Carmax is selling the car for almost $19k. Yes, $19k, which is $8k more than they offered me. I paid $17.6k for the car in February 2020 with only 32k miles or so. You can buy a used 2020 Subaru Limited for $23-26k with relatively low miles. So the fact that an almost 10 year old car is selling for a few thousand $$$ less than the newer model ...
I just left Carmax. We were just looking for my daughter’s first car. They had a 2023 N Line DCT Hyundai Elantra with 13k miles and small dings and scratches but nothing serious. It was $26,999 I went home and searched for the 2023 Elantra N line. There are really two options as the N line comes with everything.
Check obvious spots for frame damage, glass damage, dents/dings, start the car, then upload everything from their phone to the buyers office. They punch the info into a system and it spits out a number. Takes about 30min-1hr depending on how busy they are from the time you get seated with an advisor. They print out the offer, present to you ...
Sell it privately You will get at least $3000 more than Carmax will offer. Don't understand why people don't know to NEVER trade a car in Always sell it privately. My mother in laws 2011 Jeep with only 83K miles. got quotes Carmax $8000 Carvana $9800, I just sold it privately on Facebook for $11,400 in 1 day. NEVER trade in a car.
Dirk_Beefslab. ADMIN MOD. Selling a car to Carvana: my experience (so far) Some life changes this fall have enabled my family to go down to one car, so we opted to keep the larger vehicle and sell the smaller vehicle. I used to love wheeling and dealing on used cars, but as I’ve gotten older, the less I like dealing with the general public.
Different states have different tax trade in rules. Some you can separate buy and sell by 30-90 or more days. Others are very restrictive. Know yours. Either way, get the carmax, carvana offers. Probably easier to buy and sell all at the same time. Your mileage is high, but most dealers should match.
