Admission to post doctoral and postgraduate courses conducted at PGIMER is made twice a year. The sessions commence from first January and first July. The admission to the courses is made on merit on all-India basis by holding an entrance examination by the institute, after issuing a countrywide admission notice.

In 2002, CGC Landran was created under the affiliation of I. K. Gujral Punjab Technical University. Better known as Landran College, CGC Landran offers many technical, pharma, management, arts and science courses. Landran is an interconnected urbanized village linked between Sohana, Kharar and Banur, three prominent towns or villages of Mohali.
NIPER Mohali campus spans over an area of 130 acres (0.53 km 2), near the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium of S.A.S. Nagar . It is a fully residential institute offering unmarried as well as married hostel accommodation. In addition, it offers accommodation to the faculty, staff and visitors.
Provincial medical entrance exams included the MDCAT conducted by the University of Health Sciences, Lahore in Punjab and Balochistan before the NMDCAT. It was implemented in 1998 as the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) on the initiative of the then chief minister of Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to counter replete cheating in HSSC exams at the time.
