Fort Stewart is named for Brigadier General Daniel Stewart, a hero of the Revolutionary War and a political leader from Liberty County, Georgia. [9] It is the largest Army installation east of the Mississippi River, covering 280,000 acres (1,100 km 2), which include parts of Liberty, Long, Bryan, Evans and Tattnall Counties.

The 3rd Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade is a sustainment brigade of the United States Army headquartered at Fort Stewart, Georgia.The 3rd Division Sustainment Brigade (DSB) is responsible for providing logistical support to the 3rd Infantry Division, however the modular nature of the brigade means that it takes on other roles while deployed.
A new building was constructed on Fort Stewart, Georgia for the Brigade and was occupied in August 1997. The First United States Army, the Brigade's higher headquarters, also purchased new furniture and computers for the Brigade's use.
