Off the Deep End is the seventh studio album by the American parody musician "Weird Al" Yankovic, released in 1992. This album was the first album self-produced by Yankovic, after six albums with Rick Derringer. Recorded between June 1990 and January 1992, the album was a follow-up to the unsuccessful soundtrack to Yankovic's 1989 film UHF.
A parody of Nirvana 's song "Smells Like Teen Spirit", it was released as the lead single from Yankovic's Off the Deep End album in April 1992. "Smells Like Nirvana" was written during a three-year career low for Yankovic after the financial failure of his film UHF, but captured the quickly-rising popularity of grunge and Nirvana's success.
The Deep End is the fifth solo album by Susanna Hoffs, released on April 7, 2023, on her own Baroque Folk label. An article from Billboard regarding the 100 best musical bridges of the 21st century featured "Shallow" at number six, stating "the Oscar and Grammy winner starts off as a sweet, yet somber back and forth between a boy and a girl. But the guttural bridge launches "Shallow" off the deep end and into iconic territory.
The cover of Off the Deep End is also a parody of the album containing that track, Nevermind, and its first track is a parody of that album's first track, "Smells Like Teen Spirit". The X-Files: The Album features a hidden track at 10 minutes and 13 seconds into the final track.
Off the Deep End was released on June 9, 2009 and peaked at number 198 on the Billboard 200 on June 27, 2009. On July 10, 2009, a music video was released for "Stuttering". Two singles were released from the album, "Stuttering" and "Stupid Love Letter". The album was produced by Emanuel Kiriakou and mixed by Serban Ghenea.
