The house was home to a restaurant for many years, and was prominently visible from Interstate 95 in Newton. The property was taken by the state by eminent domain in 2003. The state sold the house for $1, provided the purchasers paid to move it. The house was deconstructed and rebuilt on Old Sudbury Road in Lincoln, Massachusetts, in 2005. [2]
Today a private residence, Christ Church's first parsonage, built circa 1770, is the oldest home in Newton, New Jersey. Thomas Anderson House, built in 1785, houses the parish offices. Eighteen clergymen have served as rector of Christ Church, Newton. The first, Uzal Ogden, Jr., was the son of Newark merchant and churchwarden.
On 26 October 1979, the First Presbyterian Church of Newton was placed on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places. [3] [4] It is also included as part of the Newton Town Plot Historic District which was approved and entered on the National Register of Historic Places on 12 November 1992. [2]
