The Ennedi Plateau is located in the northeast of Chad, in the regions of Ennedi-Ouest and Ennedi-Est.It is considered a part of the group of mountains known as the Ennedi Massif found in Chad, which is one of the nine countries that make up the Sahelian belt that spans the Atlantic Ocean to Sudan.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Sites are places of importance to cultural or natural heritage as described in the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, established in 1972. [1] Chad accepted the convention, making its historical sites eligible for inclusion on the list.

Ennedi-Ouest Region (Arabic: إنيدي الغربية) is one of the twenty-three regions of Chad. It was created in 2012 from the western half of the former Ennedi Region. [2] It appears to cover the same territory as the former Ennedi Ouest Department. [1] The capital of the region is Fada.

The region borders Libya to the north, Sudan to the east, Wadi Fira Region to the south, and Ennedi-Ouest Region to the west. The region is geographically part of the Sahara Desert. The region's northern border lies within the Aouzou Strip, historically a point of dispute between Chad and Libya. [4]
