Jakks Pacific's logo, 1995–2015. Jack Friedman and Stephen Berman co-founded Jakks Pacific in January 1995. [2] His first master toy license was a seven-year deal with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) to mainly produce figurines and playsets, similar to how Hasbro grew to success with the G.I. Joe toy line. [3]
The Bendies series figure cards featured a Mail-In promotion for a brass die-cast metal belt buckle that was a replica of the WWF Championship Belt. The requirements for the "Free" mail-in offer were four proofs of purchase (Wrestling Superstars points on the card backs) and $1.00 to cover postage and handling.
Inspired by Hasbro's success launching with the G.I. Joe line, Friedman then obtained the WWF's toy license to launch Jakks Pacific with. Jack Friedman (1939 – May 3, 2010) was an American entrepreneur, businessman, veteran of the toy and video game industries, and a philanthropist. Regarded as an influential member in the toy and video game industries, Friedman founded the three toy companies LJN, THQ, and Jakks Pacific; LJN and THQ later switched focus to video games.
Trendmasters produced the War Planets toy line, which led to the creation of the television series Shadow Raiders; however, the series is off the air and the figures have ceased production since Trendmasters closed. [3] In addition, the company created the Rumble Robots toy line in 2001, as well as the Wuv Luv line of fuzzy toys.
JAKKS Pacific acquired Play Along Toys and assumed the master toy licensee for the Cabbage Patch Kids in 2011. Jakks introduced a 14-inch (35.6 cm) Cabbage Patch Kids Fashionality line and other Cabbage Patch Kid products. In 2013, Jakks Pacific released the Celebration edition to commemorate the 30th Birthday of the licensed Cabbage Patch Kids.
