Mar 25, 2008. #5. Double Drops said: I realize each gun shoots different loads better, but I'm just curious to know what factory ammo out there people have had good luck with in .30-06. I'm going to be using this for deer hunting. As far as factory ammo goes I have seen very few rifles that won't shoot Remington Core-lokts with very good ...

  3. Thoughts on 178 gr eldx in 30-06 - Long Range Hunting Forum

I stopped using them. 30,06 2750fps 178 eldx hit a muley at 220yds and it turned into a grenade. Bullet hit the edge of the shoulder blade, completely shed the jacket, and made it to one lung. Had to shoot the deer again in the neck to finish it. That bullet broke the neck but didn't exit.

General RE LEE said: For fun and potentially as my hunting round for deer season here in TN, I am going to load up some 130 grain TTSX over some Accurate 4064. Potential for 3200 FPS and reviews I've read online say it kills deer like lightning out of a .30 06.

Carlos had a system, that the .30-06, .50 BMG or .308 was just a part of. Factory ammo is very good these days, but still lacks the consistency I require for stretching the distance. Basic kit requires a good chronograph verifying ammo works within pre-determined parameters, and range finder to verify exactly what distance we're working at.

  6. Best 30-06 Factory Load - Long Range Hunting Forum

    www.longrangehunting.com/threads/best-30-06-factory-load.37488

A 165 gr. bullet from a 30-06 placed in the vitals will take on most any game short of the BIG bears in the USA. But for antelope and WT deer take a good look at a 125 gr bullet. If you hand load the 125 gr Nosler ballistic tip at 3000 to 3100 fps is a real deer killer. Since I started using this bullet in my 30X47 HBR and 308 Win.

As to the effectiveness of the 220 RN, in a 30-06, a friend put one in the hind end of a going away moose, bullet traveled full length, moose dead within it's length. Reply.

Not the same rifle but for additional reference material, I had a 30-06 Winchester XPR that I tried a ton of factory ammo in (expensive Berger, Nosler, Hornady Elite Hunter, Federal Premium type rounds) and in weights from 150-200. Of the many boxes I tried, that rifle liked the cheap Federal Non-Typical 180 bullets the best (half MOA at 100 ...

For years (60+) we have loaded IMR 4895 and Speer 150 GR BTSP for the family. We are looking for some new modern hunting loads for the 30-06. We want to stay with either a 150 GR or 165 / 68 GR bullet. We have purchased some Barnes factory loads (VOR-TX 150 GR Tipped TSX BT) that seem to shoot very well. We have Barnes 168 GR TTSX bullets to ...

I have a Rem 700 SPS in 30-06 and use it as my primary deer rifle. I shoot it at all ranges out to 1000 yards. I shoot Nosler 168gr Ballistic Tips as my main bullet for 500 yds and in and 175gr BTHP bullets for farther shots. I have a Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 and use the BDC dots with the Ballistic Tips and dial turrets for the long range bullet.

  11. .30-06 and hammer bullets - Long Range Hunting Forum

I started hunting with a .30-06 and 220 grain bullets, and have used a variety of 200 grain+ bullets since. Very effective within their limits. Probably better 200 yards and under, but could be used to 300. Both the .30-40 Krag, and .30-06 originally came with 220 grain bullets. I have them on the bench, but haven't made it to the range with them.
