Thus, the currency regime in place for the Indian rupee with respect to the US dollar is a de facto controlled exchange rate.
During the 1970s, it was revalued until it reached ¥1.50 per dollar in 1980. When China's economy gradually opened in the 1980s, the renminbi was devalued in order to improve the competitiveness of Chinese exports.
