Added to NRHP. September 13, 1979. Designated CL. November 14, 1977. Navy Pier is a 3,300-foot-long (1,010 m) pier on the shoreline of Lake Michigan, located in the Streeterville neighborhood of the Near North Side community area in Chicago, Illinois, United States.
SS. Eastland. Sold on 1 June 1914 to the St. Joseph-Chicago Steamship Company of St. Joseph, Michigan. Raised after accident in October 1915 and sold at auction on 20 December 1915 to Captain Edward A. Evers, sold on 21 November 1917 to the Illinois Naval Reserve. SS Eastland was a passenger ship based in Chicago and used for tours.
After several court cases, the vessel was returned to Gillon, being towed to Chicago in 1980 for use as a museum ship on Navy Pier. In December 1983, Milwaukee Clipper was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, [1] and in May 1989 the ship was designated a National Historic Landmark. [2] [7] Today, both plaques are on board the ship.
