Deal is a coastal town in Kent, England, which lies where the North Sea and the English Channel meet, 8 miles (13 km) north-east of Dover and 8 miles (13 km) south of Ramsgate. It is a former fishing, mining and garrison town whose history is closely linked to the anchorage in the Downs .
The town hall continued to serve as the headquarters of Deal Borough Council for much of the 20th century but ceased to be the local seat of government when the enlarged Dover District Council was formed in 1974. [6] After court services transferred to Dover in the late 1970s, the town hall also ceased to be used for judicial purposes. [3]
Dartford, Gravesend, The Medway Towns, Sittingbourne, Faversham, Canterbury, Deal and Dover are built on chalk. [4] The eastern part of the Wealden dome was eroded away by the sea. The White cliffs of Dover occur where the North Downs meets the coast. From there to Westerham is now the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. [6]

The Royal Marine Depot, Deal was a military installation occupied by the Royal Marines and located in an area between Lower Walmer and South Deal in Kent. The Depot (for training Royal Marine recruits) was first established in 1861, [ 1 ] occupying part of the Royal Naval Hospital (which was linked to H.M. Naval Yard, Deal ). [ 2 ]
