The chapter continues a discourse commenced at Matthew 24:3 where the disciples come to Jesus to speak "privately". [6] The Parable of the Ten Virgins (verses 1-13) and the Parable of the Talents (verses 14-30) are both unique to Matthew, [7] but the Parable of the Talents has a corollary in Luke 19:11-27.
According to Matthew 25:1–13, ten virgins await a bridegroom; five have brought enough oil for their lamps for the wait, while the oil of the other five runs out. The five virgins who are prepared for the bridegroom's arrival are rewarded, while the five who went to buy further oil miss the bridegroom's arrival and are disowned.
The setting of the parable of the talents in Matthew 25 is the Mt. Olivet discourse. In Matthew 24–25, the overall theme is end-time events, warning, and parables. "The direct cautions and warnings (Matthew 24:42, Matthew 24:44; Matthew 25:13) must be for the disciples (his audience)—warnings to be watchful and to be ready for Christ's coming".

[2] In his mapping Chapter 13 of Matthew is its centre, as is Mark 8:30 and the beginning of Chapter 12 of John. He then separates Luke into three parts by 9:51 and 18:14. [2]
The post-tribulation rapture doctrine is the belief in a combined resurrection and rapture, or gathering of the saints, after the Great Tribulation.. This differs from the pre-tribulation rapture theory which claims the rapture will happen before the Great Tribulation; the mid-tribulation rapture theory which claims the rapture will happen during the middle of the Great Tribulation, usually ...
Within the discourse on ostentation, Matthew presents an example of correct prayer. Luke places this in a different context. The Lord's Prayer (6:9–13) contains parallels to 1 Chronicles 29:10–18. [22] [23] [24] The first part of Matthew 7 (Matthew 7:1–6) [25] deals with judging. Jesus condemns those who judge others without first sorting ...
However, in Matthew 1:21 Joseph is told that he will do the naming, and Joseph names Jesus in verse 25, in obedience to the command of the angel. [3] Robert H. Gundry believes that having Joseph name Jesus is a clear demonstration of Jesus' legal status as his son, and thus as an heir of King David, a continuation of the argument made by the ...
