Bill Ray (1936–2020) was an American photojournalist whose long career included twelve years of work for Life magazine spanning the 1960s. He was responsible for extensive photo essays and issue covers.
The first edition appeared in 1960 under the banner of Time, Inc., [49] and was soon followed by others, including a special edition for young people by The Golden Press. Time’s principal owner and co-founder, Henry Luce, moved in 1961 to restructure his holdings. LIFE Magazine was less successful, but Time Books was very successful.
