This is a list of trade unions in the United Kingdom formed under UK labour law. The criteria for being an independent trade union, free from employer influence and domination, are set out in the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 section 5.
It was a union of the National Provincial Staff Association, National Provincial Bank Ladies' Guild, District Bank Staff Association and the Westminster Bank Guild. [1] By 1980, it had nearly 34,000 members. [2] In 1999, the union merged with the Banking, Insurance and Finance Union and the Barclays Group Staff Union to form UNIFI.
The Barclays Group Staff Union was a trade union representing workers at Barclays Bank in the United Kingdom. The union was founded in about 1918 as the Barclays Bank Staff Association . It was registered as an independent trade union in about 1980, and by the mid-1990s had more than 46,000 members, representing over half of the bank's employees.
The union was founded in 1946 as the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE), when the Bank Officers' Guild and the Scottish Bankers' Association merged. In 1979, it was renamed the Banking, Insurance and Finance Union. In 1999, it merged with the NatWest Staff Association and the Barclays Group Staff Union to form UNIFI. [2]
