Rowdens Road is a former first-class cricket ground located in Wells, Somerset. The ground was an early home to Wells Cricket Club, though the club no longer plays there (they are currently based in South Horrington). Between 1935–1939 and 1946–1951, the ground hosted annual Somerset County Cricket Club matches. [1]
Wells (/ w ɛ l z /) [2] is a cathedral city and civil parish in Somerset, located on the southern edge of the Mendip Hills, 21 miles (34 km) south-east of Weston-super-Mare, 22 mi (35 km) south-west of Bath and 23 mi (37 km) south of Bristol.
Pen Hill provides views in all directions, particularly to the south, with views to the City of Wells and Wells Cathedral (approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) distant). On clear day it is often possible to see across Somerset to the Blackdown Hills, Quantock Hills and Brendon Hills.

Wookey Hole Caves (/ ˈ w ʊ k i /) are a series of limestone caverns, a show cave and tourist attraction in the village of Wookey Hole on the southern edge of the Mendip Hills near Wells in Somerset, England. The River Axe flows through the cave. [3] It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for both biological and geological reasons. [4]
The post office at Somerset has been in operation since 1848. [4] An old variant name of the community was called Springfield. [5] Somerset was relocated when the Mississinewa dam was created. The original Somerset was located near the dam, and is now underwater.
The quarry was opened during the First World War by the Wells Stone Company who leased the land from Lord Brougham and Vaux. [2] In 1919 the 12 acre site and plant was sub-leased by the Somerset County Council to support their road building and maintenance activities, paying a royalty to Wells Stone for the rock extracted.
