The Dixie Melody Boys were an American Southern Gospel quartet from Kinston, North Carolina formed in 1961 and retired in 2023. The group was known for giving many young Southern Gospel and Christian artists their start in the gospel music industry and their innovation in the Christian music field.
The King's Heralds began in 1927 by four college students; brothers Louis, Waldo and Wesley Crane [1] and Ray Turner (1908-2008) [2] in Keene, Texas who began singing gospel music, under the name Lone Star Four.
As a singer, he was an original member in The Statesmen Quartet, the Sunny South Quartet, and the Melody Masters. In 1976 Lister was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the Southern Gospel Music Association in 1997. His songs have been recorded by nearly every Southern Gospel artist. [1]
Lee Williams is often referred to as the "GOAT" of Gospel music and he and the QC's are often recognized how they changed Gospel quartet music and the impact they made also going on to be the #1 Gospel group in the world for 21 years straight. Lee Williams died on August 30, 2021. He was 75 years old.
