Most areas are owned by the department; some are leased by the department; some areas are managed under contract by the department; and some areas are leased to other entities for management.

Cooley Lake Conservation Area: This 1,348-acre (5.46 km 2) area includes an ancient oxbow lake (Cooley Lake), which was once the main channel of the Missouri River, and also wetlands, croplands, and a forested bluff.
