Westland is a city in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. A western suburb of Detroit , Westland is located about 18 miles (29 km) west of downtown Detroit . As of 2022, the city had a population of 84,037.

The Norwayne Historic District, or Norwayne Subdivision, is an historic residential subdivision, originally built for World War II defense workers. In 1835, Livonia Township (now the city of Livonia) was split off from Nankin. There was a post office called East Nankin beginning in 1857. [4] Garden City, Inkster, and Wayne then incorporated from land either partially or wholly within Nankin Township. The remainder of the township incorporated as the city of Westland, effective May 16, 1966.
