The course was built in 1934 by Indiana Golf Hall of Famer Bill Diddle. Purdue South Course was modified in 1968 by Larry Packard and again in 1996 with the opening of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. [7] The name of the course was changed to Ackerman Hills Golf Course after receiving donations by the Ackerman Family.
The tournament was played on the Kampen Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. This was the third NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship hosted by Purdue University on their campus golf courses in West Lafayette, Indiana; Purdue previously hosted in 1952 and 1961. The Kampen Course was redesigned in 1998 by golf course architect Pete Dye.
University Ridge was designed to be the home course of the men's and women's golf teams for the University of Wisconsin. Southwest of campus, the course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and opened in 1991. In 1994, it also became home to both the boys' and girls' WIAA state golf championships for all divisions.

The 1961 NCAA Golf Championship was the 23rd annual tournament to determine the national champions of NCAA men's collegiate golf. It was contested in 1961 at the Purdue University Golf Course in Lafayette, Indiana. Host team Purdue won the team title and Jack Nicklaus from Ohio State won the individual title over Purdue's Mark Darnell. [1] [2]
