The High Chaparral is an American Western action-adventure drama television series that aired on NBC from 1967 to 1971, starring Leif Erickson and Cameron Mitchell. The series was made by Xanadu Productions in association with NBC Productions, and was created by David Dortort , who had previously created Bonanza for the network.
The High Chaparral and Rancho Montoya are both threatened when Victoria's childhood sweetheart, Diego de la Paula, seeks revenge after his hacienda is seized and sold to Don Sebastian Montoya by the new Mexican government, whom de la Paula fought against in the recent civil war.
In the early 1960s, he moved to the West Coast, where he was cast as Seaman Jimmy "Red" Smith in the feature film Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1961). Despite his character being killed in the movie version, Irwin Allen brought Slade back for the TV series on ABC. He was cast in 1964 as a new character, Seaman Malone.
