September 2, 1979 - Hurricane David rolls through the Bahamas as a category 1–2, as it had brought strong winds of 70–80 mph (110–130 km/h) to places such as Andros Island. It also brought heavy rainfall to The Bahamas peaking at 8 inches (200 mm). Even with the rainfall and winds, the overall damage in The Bahamas is minor.
Several late November systems have persisted into December thus enhancing its count. Conversely, only one storm has formed in March, followed by February with two. Additionally, a pair of hurricanes have spanned two calendar years: Hurricane Alice in 1954–1955, and Tropical Storm Zeta in 2005–2006.

Between 8 and 9:30 am, snow flurries were reported in several areas outside Miami. The National Weather Service office in Miami reported that an observation at nearby Lake Worth reported a trace of snow on the ground at the 9:00 am observation (it was gone by the 10:00 am observation). This was the source of the trace of snow at Miami in 1977.
The weather in Hope Town is very similar to that of South Florida. Hope Town and the surrounding islands of Abaco generally follow five weather patterns throughout the year. The winter cold fronts (or Canada Clippers) that pass down to south Florida also affect the Abacos, although occasionally some stall before getting to the northern Bahamas.
In December 1995, CSU predicted that only 8 named storms would form and 5 of those would become hurricanes; no specific number of major hurricanes was given. However, in April 1996, CSU revised their forecast, stating that 11 named storms would develop, with seven of those intensifying into a hurricane, and three reaching major hurricane intensity.
It was known as the Great Abaco hurricane [nb 1] or the 1932 Bahamas hurricane, after the site of its worst effects, which it hit at peak intensity. Though large and powerful, it impacted few areas other than islands.
