Greenwood Conservation Area in Ajax Greenwood developed as an unincorporated community within the Pickering Township . When the Regional Municipality of Durham was created in 1974, the southern part of Greenwood was merged with Ajax , and the rest of the territory remained with the Township's successor, the town (later city) of Pickering.
Ajax (/ ˈ eɪ dʒ æ k s /; 2021 population: 126,666) is a waterfront town in Durham Region in Southern Ontario, Canada, located in the eastern part of the Greater Toronto Area. [ 1 ] The town is named for HMS Ajax , a Royal Navy cruiser that served in the Second World War .
As both sites no longer contain garbage, they are excellent candidates for remediation. The conversion to conservation lands was agreed upon during the original sale in the late 1960s.
