Blendon Township has been involved with the zoning process since the 1950’s and has adopted several superseding ordinances in the years since that time. The most recent Master Plan was approved and adopted on February 7, 2002 in conjunction with the Ottawa County Smart Growth Program.
A five member board elected by the township electorate every 4 years. Each of the elected officers have duties and responsibilities specifically defined by Michigan law. The Board is charged with overseeing the proper operation of Township government and stewardship of the public resources.
Blendon Township was surveyed in 1833 and was organized in 1854. According to historical records, on November 5, 1836 John Ball (a legendary figure and lumber baron of West Michigan; 1794-1884) laid claim to forty-one, eighty-acre parcels in Blendon Township for logging purposes.
