I bought my MS September 2019. Key fob low battery came on. I thought it was a little pre-mature but didn’t think much of it. Got a new battery, replaced it in my key fob, but the message is still there. Even after several hours of being parked. Go back to the car, unlock it and same message...

I got the low key fob warning, so I replaced the battery with a generic cheap battery, and it wouldn't work at all. I tried another one and same thing. I tested the cheap battery, 3.3v, so it should have worked, but when I put it in the key fob and tried opening doors, frunk, trunk several times, I took the battery out and it was down to 2.7 volts.

I got the ones from Amazon and yes they are not OEM batteries... just like the review pictures, they were shipped in little zip lock bags. But they worked fine for me. I bought them in April 2019 and the keyfob still works now.

Same problem with four year old 2018 Model S (just past warranty)—two suddenly disfunctional key fobs, messaging ‘Replace battery’ and later ‘Key not detected.’ Simply replacing battery had no effect. OTOH 12 months is sad. Only one in my Toyota Smart Key which works just like the Tesla key. Still on my 2nd at 7 years. Mercedes-Benz uses two CR2025's in my KEYLESS-GO key (M-B needs to hire someone to name things) which also seem to last about 3 or 4 years. Looks like I'll be spending the money saved on gasoline for key fob batteries.

  11. Model X Key Fob Battery Issue - Tesla Motors Club

    teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/model-x-key-fob-battery...

Just took delivery of a 2018 Model X 75D. We were given two key fobs. One was dead and the other had a low battery. The Fremont delivery center where I picked it up did not have any more Model X compatible batteries. I transferred the low battery into the other key fob just to check that it was paired to the car and working. Thankfully it was.
