Built as Deep Sea Driller, Byford Dolphin was the first-of-class in the highly successful Aker H-3 series, designed by Aker Group and completed at the Aker Verdal shipyard in 1974. In 1997, based on Dolphin Services A/S, the Fred. Olsen Energy ASA was formed. The company was listed on Oslo Stock Exchange with the tickers FOE and later DDASA.

The Johan Sverdrup oil field (Sverdrup Field) is an oil field in the North Sea, about 140 kilometres (87 mi) west of Stavanger, Norway.
