DragonForce was founded in 1999 by guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman, under the name of DragonHeart.Totman and Li had both experienced being in a band previously, with both having come from the New Zealand heavy metal band Demoniac.
DragonForce revealed details about the album on their Facebook page on 2 February 2012 and later on the official website. They released the album cover, track listing, and release date and also announced four different editions that would be released: CD, digital download, LP and a limited edition box set.

Extreme Power Metal is the eighth studio album by British power metal band DragonForce, released on 27 September 2019. [7] It is the band's last studio album to feature longtime bassist Frédéric Leclercq [8] and the first not to feature longtime keyboardist Vadim Pruzhanov, who left the band in 2018; [9] Epica keyboardist Coen Janssen recorded keyboards for the album as a session member.
