DTE Electric Company (formerly The Detroit Edison Company) is an investor-owned electric utility founded in 1886 in Detroit, Michigan. As the largest electric utility in Michigan, it serves approximately 2.3 million customers in the southeastern portion of the state.
Coal use has decreased by half over the last decade, replaced by natural gas and renewables. 60% of renewable generation is wind energy. [1] Michigan imports all coal and nuclear fuel (uranium), and 82% of natural gas. A goal to produce over 10% of electricity from in-state renewable sources was set in 2015.
DTE's earliest direct corporate ancestor, the Edison Illuminating Company of Detroit, was founded in 1886. By the turn of the century, it split responsibility for commercial electric power in the fast-growing city of Detroit with the Peninsular Electric Light Company; the latter company controlled the city's electric distribution network.
St. Clair is a base load power plant, dispatched after DTE Energy's Fermi 2 nuclear unit and the neighboring Belle River coal-fired power plant. Between 1999 and 2003, St. Clair's capacity factor averaged 57%, plant heat rate averaged 10,449 British thermal units per kilowatt-hour (3.1 kWh/kWh), giving an plant efficiency of 32%, and the ...
This is a list of countries and dependencies by annual electricity production. China is the world's largest electricity producing country, followed by the United States and India. Data are for the year 2023 and are sourced from Ember unless otherwise specified. [1] Links for each location go to the relevant electricity market page, when available.
Right now, DTE said about 80% of its renewable generation is from wind and the rest solar, but going forward, the company expects it to become about 50% for each in five years.
Under DTE’s resource plan, the company has noted it has gone from generating 77% of its power with coal in 2005 to just 45% in 2023. By 2027, it aims to cut that further to 32%, by 2029 to 15% ...
In a power system, a load curve or load profile is a chart illustrating the variation in demand/electrical load over a specific time. Generation companies use this information to plan how much power they will need to generate at any given time. A load duration curve is similar to a load curve. The information is the same but is presented in a ...
