Holden Beach is located in southern Brunswick County. The town occupies an 8-mile-long (13 km) barrier island on the Atlantic Ocean, bounded by Shallotte Inlet to the west, Lockwoods Folly Inlet to the east, and the Intracoastal Waterway to the north.
The park will be at Shallotte Blvd and the ferry landing at the East end of the island. The recreation area will have a gazebo, picnic tables, a fishing pier, and a walkway with steps to the sand. On the island of Ocean Isle Beach the town has recently finished a community area with an amphitheater, playground, small water area and bathrooms.
Most of those roads are secondary, but they also include the southbound lanes of U.S. 17 south of Shallotte in Brunswick County, the main road between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach.
Shallotte is located in west-central Brunswick County. U.S. Route 17 (Ocean Highway) passes through the town, bypassing the town center to the northwest. (Main Street is designated US 17 Business.) US 17 leads northeast 33 miles (53 km) to Wilmington and southwest 38 miles (61 km) to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Oregon Inlet is an inlet along North Carolina's Outer Banks. It joins the Pamlico Sound with the Atlantic Ocean and separates Bodie Island from Pea Island , which are connected by the 2.8-mile (4.5 km) Marc Basnight Bridge that spans the inlet.
