Jason Sellards (born October 3, 1978), known professionally by the stage name Jake Shears, is an American singer, songwriter, musician and actor. He is best known as the co-lead vocalist of New York City pop-rock band Scissor Sisters , who achieved considerable chart success in the 2000s before their indefinite hiatus in 2012.

The Monks, referred to by the name monks on record sleeves, were an American rock band formed in Gelnhausen, West Germany, in 1964.Assembled by five American GIs stationed in the country, the group grew tired of the traditional format of rock, which motivated them to forge a highly experimental style characterized by an emphasis on rhythm over melody, augmented by the heavy use of distortion.
The band was formed in New York City in 2001 by Babydaddy, Jake Shears, Ana Matronic, Del Marquis and Paddy Boom, who was later replaced by Randy Real. Criss-Cross was recorded during and shortly after the sessions for Monk's first Columbia LP, Monk's Dream.The quartet of musicians that appear on the album had been playing together for four years at the time of the recording sessions, and was thus one of the longer-lived bands of Monk's career.
