Stekene (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈsteːkənə]) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. Since 1976, the municipality has comprised the towns of Kemzeke, Klein-Sinaai and Stekene proper. It also includes the village Koewacht. In 2021, Stekene had a total population of 18,863. The total area is 44.80 km 2. [2]

The Tuinbouwschool Huis te Lande was a horticultural school in Rijswijk, Netherlands, founded in 1907 by Jacoba Hingst.It was the first and only horticultural school for girls and women in the Netherlands to give girls the opportunity to learn how to grow flowers, fruits and vegetables, as the existing horticultural schools of that time were not accessible to them.
In 1977, the municipality merged into Stekene [3] except for the hamlet of 't Hol which became part of Sint-Gillis-Waas. [4] The former municipality covered an area of 11.67 square kilometres (4.51 sq mi). [3] Eddy Merckx rode his last cycling race in Kemzeke, in which he finished 12th. [5]
