The 2020 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election was conducted on 1 December 2020 to elect members to all 150 wards of the municipal corporation. [2] The BJP made significant inroads into the GHMC, much at the loss of the TRS.
GHMC covers an area of 650 km 2 (250 sq mi), spread over the four districts—Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medchal–Malkajgiri and Sangareddy. The GHMC is divided into five zones and eighteen circles that contain 150 municipal wards. Each ward is headed by a corporator, elected by popular vote.
These were the first elections since to the GHMC since its creation in 2007. About 43% of the 57 lakh (5.7 million) voters cast their vote in the polls. The Indian National Congress and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen formed the government in a post-poll agreement. [3]

Most previous elections for the urban local bodies were held from 2014-2016.In 2014, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi won 3 municipal corporations and 22 municipalities, followed by the Indian National Congress with 19 municipalities, the Telugu Desam Party with 4 municipalities, the Bharatiya Janata Party with 3 municipalities, and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen with 1 municipality.
