The Moon High football team competes in the WPIAL Class AAAAA Allegheny Six Conference, which is made up of South Fayette, Baldwin, Upper St. Clair, Bethel Park, and Peters Township. [5] In 1998, Moon Tigers won the WPIAL Class AAA Championship at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. Moon defeated Blackhawk 34–7 to claim the title. [6]

The 12-team College Football Playoff has given us more games and also juggled the bowl schedule. Bowl season began on Dec. 14 and now ends on Jan. 4 for the non-playoff bowls.
The classifications range from Class A (1A) to Class AAAAAA (6A). As of the beginning of the 2022-23 school year, the PIAA will have 95 A or (1A) class, 94 AA or (2A) class, 88 AAA or (3A) class, 92 AAAA or (4A) class, 98 AAAAA or (5A) class and 88 AAAAAA or (6A) class schools competing throughout the football season. Upper St. Clair Township was further subdivided throughout the 19th and 20th centuries as several parts of the original township separated to form new townships and boroughs. In 1973, Upper St. Clair Township adopted a home rule charter that took effect on January 5, 1976, and is no longer governed by the Pennsylvania Township Code. [5]
