San Francisco Bay Area (USA) 10/07/13 10:04 AM. 15945 posts. The A330-200 is a good plane. It's the smallest wide body produced by Airbus. It's roughly comparable to the Boeing 767-400. Alitalia introduced the A330 in its fleet after 2009, therefore the oldest it will be is 4 years old, which is rather new by any standard.
Alitalia Call Center prior to 10/15/21 told me I am not eligible for a refund (@US$2,500) because the 2022 tickets were purchased with Alitalia vouchers -- I explained the vouchers reflect cash paid; the canceled April 2022 flights were my 3rd attempt to visit Italy: both 2020 & 2021 Alitalia flights were canceled due to COVID; Alitalia ...
One other factor to consider is that many Alitalia flights do NOT park at the terminal. The plane parks remotely and then buses take passengers to the terminal. Had that experience when flying to/from Athens from Rome. Adds at least 15 minutes to getting into the terminal building vs walking off the plane through the tube into the concourse
In January, Alitalia was bought and merged with Air One, Italy's largest domestic airline and rebranded Alitalia. They are going through some growing pains. There were a lot of problems late last year prior to the purchase and the airline was virtually a day away from bankrupcy before it was bought.
I used Google Flights to see my options and I saw the Alitalia logo but the carrier was listed as Italia Transperto Aereo SPA. After checking the official ITA site, I confirmed the times matched what I saw on Google Flights. I noticed that it is easier to search flights on ITA using the airport codes.
Alitalia, at the same time, is not canceling those flights until there is a formal communication by the Italian Government to do so. And so far that official communication has not happened. It’s still August and, all government officials, including ministers, do not plan to break the tradition of enjoying the whole month at the beach.
Alitalia seems to always be on the brink of bankruptcy (or beyond bankruptcy) and always on the brink of being bailed out or bought by someone else. My primary concern would be getting stranded if the airline goes belly up at the last minute, but it has been to the edge so many times and was saved each time, it probably won't disappear the day ...
I then plan to pay for ancillary flights on Alitalia from Zurich to Palermo connecting in Rome. The flight to Rome arrives at 12:30 pm and flight to Palermo leaves at 13:15 leaving only 45 min layover. We will NOT have checked bags (as we are heading to a RS tour). Both flights are in the same terminal from what I see.
I believe that Alitalia will be using the brand new Airbus 340-200 on its flights to ORD, with three classes of service (Business, Premium Economy and Economy), although I might be mistaken. Alitalia has been flying to ORD since 1962 (with a seven-year hiatus from 1974 to 1981). Nonstop flights have been offered since the mid-1960s.
08/24/12 09:14 PM. 265 posts. Before you get too angry with Alitalia, you have to know that European airlines normally do NOT assign seats before check-in. This is a major difference between flying in the US and Europe. In Europe seat assignment is normally done as part of the check-in process only.
