The league table was originally compiled and issued by Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2003, making it the first global university ranking with multifarious indicators.

It is difficult to "prove" that any ranking is "notable". For example, ARWU isn't cited widely (in the media, etc) as a "notable" national ranking in any sense - it's widely acclaimed as a top international ranking.
