The Harbor Freight can is great. The cap and spout for it break every 2-3months, even if you’re not using it. It has proprietary threads, so unless you have a 3-d scanner, printer & stronger material to print with, you need to buy a new cap every time for $12-$15 at Ace hardware.
Gas Can Deals. Haven’t seen this talked about much on here, but they have “gas can deal” available right now. I picked up a 5 gallon Midwest gas can and got the pump. The way my cashier worked it was that I technically paid for both items, but both had a discount that together equaled the cost of the pump; not sure if she did it correctly ...
Most of these newer plastic cans just need a vent hole so the fuel can flow without chugging. A new nozzle/spout wouldn't hurt, as the mechanism a lot of these gas can uses tends to cause more spillage than anything else. You can find vents and replacement spouts on amazon... they're pretty readily available. 3.
Buy gasket material and make a new gasket. You can buy a replacement nozzle on Amazon for under $20. Comes with gaskets. Take the cap and nozzle off and pour it through a funnel. A couple of years ago, I bought one of those metal 5-gallon gas cans HF was selling under the Midstate brand. The can itself was made by one of the….
Flex spouts give better control of when fuel flows out tip...rigid spouts can start spilling gas before you can get tip into tank opening (trust me on this 😉). If you've never used older style jugs with a separate air vent, you'll be amazed at how much better the fuel flows (when not using same tube for fuel and air!). 3.
I stopped at HF for the normal cheap stuff today (carabiners, small hardware, hose clamps etc), and I noticed the Midwest Jerry cans. The stamping looks I identical to Valpro cans, and they did not seem the least bit flimsy. No tack welds on the handles, a full bead across. They do have a threaded fill hole and a shitty EPA spout though.
Did Harbor Freight discontinue the Midwest Jerry Can? I was thinking about buying a couple and none of the search result links seem to work. Curious if I'm looking in the wrong place. they're on a pullback right now we have ours sitting in our stock room for the last nearly a year. we finally just got new caps in for them because that was the ...
Or for the same price in rotopax I think you can get a 1.5gal can. https://amzn.to/3JRhWK6. But I would recommend getting their water tank spigot and swapping out the carb compliant one. Ironically it leaks less when you're filling your gas tank. Rotopax are useful if the mounting options are useful to you.
CARB Compliance and Your “Water Use Only” Cans: In 2009, the EPA adopted a California Air Resources Board (CARB) rule that banned the sale of traditional gas cans. To be CARB-compliant, a can must be self-closing, a requirement intended to protect the environment by reducing spills. This banned most types of personal fuel cans and Jerry ...
Look up Midwest can spouts on Amazon. They have them. The 5 gallon plastic Midwest brand cans aren't too bad honestly. When you get them home pull out the rubber o-ring from inside the spout with a pick. Slide the inner and outer sections apart and throw away the spring inside.
